Care & maintenance
Requirements vary by material, colour, finish, fabrication, and application. Pick your surface below.
Lucent Quartz®
Lucent Quartz® is a durable, non-porous surface that needs minimal maintenance. In most cases warm water and a mild soap or detergent is all it takes. A non-abrasive household cleaner or cleaning wipe works for routine cleaning — always follow the manufacturer's instructions and test a new product on a small, inconspicuous area first.
Everyday cleaning
- 1.Wipe up spills as soon as possible.
- 2.Clean the surface with warm water and mild soap or detergent.
- 3.Rinse thoroughly with clean water.
- 4.Dry the surface with a soft cloth or paper towel.
Products & materials to avoid
- Abrasive cleaning powders, unless specifically approved by Lucent
- Steel wool and abrasive scouring pads
- Metal blades and sharp scraping tools
- Harsh scrubbing or excessive pressure
- Strong acids and highly alkaline chemicals
- Hydrofluoric acid or any product containing it
- Oven, grill, and drain cleaners
- Paint strippers and aggressive solvents
- Any product not specifically recommended for quartz
If the surface does come into contact with a potentially damaging chemical, rinse the area immediately and thoroughly with clean water.
Stubborn stains
Gently loosen dried food or residue with a plastic putty knife — never a metal blade or sharp tool. For marks that survive routine cleaning, use a soft cloth with warm water and a non-abrasive cleaner suitable for quartz, then step up to Lucent QCP if needed. Always rinse thoroughly with clean, warm water afterwards and dry the surface.
Honed surfaces
Honed colours — LQ 6311L Tangula, LQ 3202 New Moon, LQ 6300 Himalayas, LQ 4720 La Lune, LQ 4412 Moe Black, LQ 4718 Raw Cement — may need cleaning more often than polished ones. Their matte finish makes some marks more visible:
- Fingerprints
- Cooking oils and grease
- Metal marks from cutlery and other objects
- Marks from belts, buttons, and other metal items
Heat resistance
Lucent Quartz® tolerates moderate heat for short periods, but it is not heat-proof. Prolonged high temperatures or sudden temperature changes can cause cracking, discoloration, or scorching.
- Never set hot pots, pans, kettles, or baking dishes directly on the surface.
- Always use a trivet, cork hot plate, or heat-resistant mat under hot items.
- Keep appliances that generate continuous heat off the surface.
- Never expose the surface to direct flame or concentrated heat.
Fireplaces and surrounds
Lucent Quartz® is NOT recommended near direct heat sources such as wood-burning or gas fireplaces. Quartz contains resin components that prolonged heat can discolour, crack, or scorch permanently. Consult a qualified professional when selecting material for high-temperature applications.
Lucent recommended products
Two products made specifically to protect and maintain Lucent Quartz® surfaces.
Liquid Shield
A protective layer over the quartz surface that helps guard against everyday use and staining. The surface must be completely clean and dry before you apply it — any oil, residue, dirt, or dust left behind gets trapped underneath, becomes harder to remove, and can affect how the surface looks.
- 1.Thoroughly clean the quartz surface.
- 2.Remove all oil, grease, dirt, dust, and other residue.
- 3.Make sure the surface is completely dry.
- 4.Apply Liquid Shield according to the product's instructions.
QCP — Quartz Cleaning Powder
A cleaning powder developed by Lucent for stubborn stains that normal cleaning will not lift. Mix it with a little water to make a paste, then work it over the affected area. Test it on a small, inconspicuous area before treating the whole surface.
- 1.Make sure the surface is clean and free of loose debris.
- 2.Apply a small amount of QCP to the affected area.
- 3.Add a little water to create a paste.
- 4.Gently work the paste over the stain using the recommended method.
- 5.Rinse the area thoroughly with clean water.
- 6.Dry the surface with a soft cloth or paper towel.
